KEM - The European Movie Masters

Mart (KinoEyes curator and lecturer) please describe, what is the KinoEyes programme about?
- KEM is an international Film MA programme that focuses on 6 specialties: directing, producing, writing, cinematography, editing and sound.

Course structure follows the workflow of an actual film production and focuses on a short fiction and feature film. Students will be studying and moving between three schools - Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, in Tallinn and the Screen Academy Scotland in Edinburgh Napier University.
What are some of the ways that this programme is distinctive?
Focus on feature film, having the opportunity to circulate between three countries and working with different lecturers in their respective schools makes it truly a distinctive experience.
What kind of courses will be offered to students?
Students will go through all different aspects of creative and practical side of filmmaking. While the programme focuses on short fiction and feature film formats, it also deals with the broader competences of film literacy. During the first semester all the students will go through a leveraging period where they will have introduction to storytelling, film industry, technology and aesthetics. Related academic topics are arts education and creativity. Second semester focuses on each of their specialization and they will acquire a deeper knowledge of filmmaking. Third and fourth semesters will be divided among three partner schools and the students will work in teams for their final films and their master’s thesis.
What kind of students, with what kind of backgrounds, might be interested in this programme?
Students who share passion and love for short fiction and feature film, have experience in a specific specalization are very welcome. Also, people who are adventurers and like the opportunity to travel between different countries and to get acquainted with different cultures and people.
What are the practical skills that students acquire during their studies?
Students will get experience and knowledge in their respective fields and get a better understanding of filmmaking as a whole.
What jobs will students go on after they graduate?
After graduating each student has the knowledge and know-how to pursuit their filmmaking career in an international film production.
What in your view is most exciting about this programme?
The focus on feature film and the possibility to study in different countries with different lecturers among people from all over the world makes it a truly exciting and unique.
