Chinese Kid Discovering Estonian Language and Nature

Why am I fascinated by the Estonian language?
I expressed my determination of mastering the charming language of eesti keel multiple times in the previous half a year. The question I receive as an instant reply is tragically identical: “Why would you even attempt to learn this language?”
Along with the inquiries, also comes the connotation that the attempt of learning a language used by a limited demographic of nowadays’ ever-growing global society, such as Estonian, is a pure waste of time.
Disagree!
From a pragmatism and utilitarianism point of view, I understand where this sentiment towards Estonian comes from. Learning a language requires investment of tremendous amounts, in terms of time and energy….English, Spanish and German would be more cost/return efficient choices…
I take my chance to not be a cost/return effective individual!
Learning Estonian for the enjoyment of a lyric-like flow of language, is that not enough? Learning Estonian for talking to the cleaning lady in your apartment building and making her laugh, is that not enough? Learning Estonian for singing at the Song Festival when it comes around next time, is that not enough?
There are enough reasons for me.
Besides, a language used by those who live amongst forests, wetlands, lakes, and just nature in general, always embeds the secret to reconnect whoever uses it with the land, the sun, and the air around.
Yes, I believe that.
Call Estonian a low cost/return efficient language if you wish, despite of the fact I might have failed some tongue twisters in the process, I am still down for Estonian, not for the price, just for the ride, a ride in the nature, a beautiful ride.
Peace out!
