Marc A. Hight: " The possibility of time travel depends heavily on our
understanding of the nature of time. I discuss two basic understandings of
the nature of time: dynamic and static theories. After arguing that dynamic
theories of time are incoherent, I then explore what adopting a static
conception of time means for our ability to travel in time. In particular,
I argue for a theory known as temporal parts theory (sometimes called
'four-dimensionalism'). I conclude by arguing that although it is not
possible to 'travel' in time in the sense of 'moving' to the past or a
future, it is logically possible for a part of you to *be* in a
non-standard temporal ordering that looks just like time 'travel.' Thus,
time travel both is and is not possible."
