The journal Studies of Transition States and Societies (STSS) published by IISS and SOGOLAS at Tallinn University is dedicating its next issue to the memory of Prof. Ellu Saar, a long-time editor in chief of the journal.

Professor Ellu Saar was an eminent sociologist whose research has profoundly impacted both Estonian and international sociology. She served as a Professor of Sociology at the School of Governance, Law and Society (SOGOLAS) at Tallinn University since 2001 and Senior Researcher at the IISS. Since 2012, she was elected as editor-in-chief of the sociological section of STSS.

For this issue, the journal welcomes research articles on topics related to Prof. Saars work in social stratification, sociology of education, life-course research, employment trajectories and lifelong learning. This issue will serve both as a tribute to her enduring legacy and a continuation of the scholarly conversations she inspired.

The contributors should send an abstract (about 200 words) by 18th of December 2024 by email (stss@tlu.ee). Feedback to the abstracts will be given by 7th of January 2025 by email. The full papers should be submitted by 28th of February 2025 through the journals online submission system. The issue is expected to be published by the end of 2025, commemorating what would have been Prof. Saar’s 70th birthday.
