Open call for plenary speakers, workshop facilitators and talk curators at the 8th Winter School of the Estonian Graduate School of Culture Studies and Art

The 8th Winter School of GSCSA “The Humanities and Posthumanities: New Ways of being Human” invites a reflection on the ways in which the Anthropocene, understood at its broadest, and the rapid technological changes influence our understanding of humanities in its different branches. The Winter School is particularly interested in how ecological and environmental approaches intersect with debates on human enhancement, genome editing, biotechnology, transhumanism, and artificial intelligence. The Winter School seeks to explore the potential and the limits of the humanities in coping with ecological and technological nonhuman concerns.

Lectures, workshops and talks on the following topics are welcome:

  • Notions of posthumanism;

  • The meaning of being human in the context of posthumanities;

  • Implications and dangers of new technologies;

  • Future of the posthuman.

The Winter School favors a diversity in formats - we therefore seek plenary speakers (60 minutes), workshop facilitators (6 hours with a 1-hour lunch break), talk curators (2 hours) and discussants (1 hour).

The Winter School will be held at Tallinn University (Narva Road 25, Tallinn) 28th January - 1 February 2019.

If necessary, travel and accommodation will be provided by the organiser.
