Massimo La Torre, Professor of European Law, will give a lecture on refugees and citizenship.
In the Western world we are confronted with an an immense movement of people looking for better conditions of life or escaping from mass murder and terror in their countries. Such an epochal migration cannot but be illegal, therefore putting under strong strain the normal immigration policies and institutions of t States that are the final destination of those masses of people as well as countries that are only a transit station for them. We are speaking of hundred thousands people and families that are in movement. How can then a democratic State deal with these masses of people knocking at its doors without putting in danger its citizenship and rights? But how could it maintain its doors closed without losing its soul and disparaging its principles?
