problems of grasping the phenomenon of terrorism (like defining and
understanding terrorism), perseverance of terrorist threat and its changing
nature and scope as well as psychological, social, economic and political
surroundings of this contemporary phenomenon and links to other forms of
political violence.-------Ryszard M. Machnikowski (1968):Associate
professor at Faculty of International and Political Studies, Łódź
University, Poland (2011 - ). A graduate from Łódź University (1991);
post‑graduate studies atOxford University (Soros/FCO Scholar 1992‑93)
and the University ofColumbia (Fulbright Junior Scholar, 1993‑94); PhD in
the social sci‑ences (Łódź University, 1996); senior lecturer at the
Faculty of InternationalStudies and Political Science at Łódź University
(1996 – 2010), in the years2005 – 2009 the Head of the Centre for
Strategic Studies and Forecastof the Higher School of International Studies
in Łódź. Main areas ofinterests: global terrorism and political
violence, international security, sociology of science, globalisation
processes. Author of three books and approx. 40 scientific articles and
research reports.
