A Week Back Home – My Teaching Exchange at the University of Granada
From October 6th to 10th, I had the opportunity to take part in a teaching mobility programme at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Granada, in Spain. As a lecturer of Spanish at Tallinn University, this experience was both personally and professionally enriching.
During my stay, I gave several sessions about teaching Spanish abroad as a possible career path for translation students. We also explored some basic teaching principles, and students were eager to ask questions about what life is like in Estonia. Many of them were especially curious about the Estonian language and about living in such a different cultural and linguistic environment. Sharing my experience as a foreign language teacher in Estonia was definitely one of the highlights of the week.
I also had the chance to attend classes taught by local professors, which gave me new insights and ideas to apply in my own teaching practice. Observing different approaches to language education was truly inspiring.
On a more personal note, returning to the same faculty where I once studied as a university student was a deeply moving experience. Walking through those familiar corridors, but this time as a visiting lecturer, felt like closing a very special circle.
During those days, it was also wonderful to experience life in Granada again. Walking through its familiar streets brought back many memories from my student years. Although I didn’t have time to visit the Alhambra this time, I could still enjoy its amazing views from different spots in the city — a reminder of how special and inspiring Granada always is.
I am grateful to both the University of Granada for their warm welcome and to Tallinn University for making this exchange possible. Experiences like this remind me how valuable international collaboration and academic mobility are for teachers and students alike.
